Our Artists

Meet Our Artists

In Cassell’s Cyclopaedia of Photography, it states “the idea underlying Artistic Photography is that the producer of a given picture has aimed at something more than a merely realistic rendering of the subject, and has attempted to convey a personal impression.”

Basically, we are saying is that we want to make art out of our photography.

We love to take striking photos and present them in a way that communicates their perception of the subject’s unique life and beauty, in hopes the viewer will also find delight in the result.

Since a surprising fifty percent of our sales are now made up of our growing selection of Photo Art, we believe our Artists’ goal is being reached!

Rick-Schmit-web

Rick Schmidt

Canadian Photo Artist/Owner

Rick Schmidt is an avid photographer with a passion for Canadian landscape photography. Over the years he has provided rich and unique photo art pieces to stores and galleries across Canada. Growing up in the rural community near Dunnville, Ontario, Rick roamed the woods and learned to appreciate the beauty of nature and the joy of being outdoors. He and his wife, Mary, enjoy traveling together on their photography journeys across Canada, when not operating the day to day of Gifts From the Heart Inc. in Baden, Ontario. Rick loves to capture the beauty of nature during the long shadows and soft light of the early morning and late evening sunsets. Over the last 10 years, he has learned to transform his photography into what he terms, “Photo Art”. People often comment that his finished pictures look like paintings, which is the style that he most enjoys presenting by enhancing the image through Photoshop. He continues to improve his photography skills through leading classes, personal instruction by professionals, as well as constant reading and learning by experience.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith, PNG

Guest Artist

Steve and his cameras live in Ayr, Ontario. He doesn’t like sardines, turnip or late night TV, but he does love photography, which has been a life-long passion. From the early days of film and darkrooms to the digital age, from landscape to micro photography, he has pursued photography as a craft to be perfected. His work has been featured in advertising and publications and he has enjoyed the role of educator, even winning a trophy or two along the way…but regardless, he loves photography and feels privileged to do it every day. As Ansel Adams said “There are two people in every picture, the photographer and the viewer.” Thank you for viewing some of his work today.
